Hnedý oxid hlinitý je kondenzovaná a kryštalizuje za vysokej teploty zo zmesi bauxitu a ďalších a ďalších surovín. To sa vyznačuje vysokou tvrdosťou, dobrou húževnatosťou a tvaru vo veľkosti. Brúsne nástroje z neho sú vhodné pre brúsenie kovov s vysokou pevnosťou v ťahu, ako sú: uhlíkovej ocele, pre všeobecné účely legovanej ocele, žíhané temperovanej liatiny a tvrdé Brošne, etc.It tiež môžu byť použité ako žiaruvzdorných materiálov.
