Hnědý oxid hlinitý je kondenzovaná a krystaluje za vysoké teploty ze směsi bauxitu a dalších a dalších surovin. To se vyznačuje vysokou tvrdostí, dobrou houževnatostí a tvaru ve velikosti. Brusné nástroje z něj jsou vhodné pro broušení kovů s vysokou pevností v tahu, jako jsou: uhlíkové oceli, pro všeobecné účely legované oceli, žíhané temperované litiny a tvrdé Brože, etc.It také mohou být použity jako žáruvzdorných materiálů.
